At Mirrens we believe that if we have the same vision, the same drive and equal hard work then the end result can only be good. Everybody involved with the restaurant has helped out with the refurbishment, seeing it grow and evolve, adding their own ideas to improve the look, service, efficiency & menus to name but a few. The team behind Mirrens work really well together, in fact, we’re not a team, we’re a family!
Full-time owners, part-time chef & waiter respectively
Rob spent 5 years at the local gastro pub, The Bull & Heifer in Bettws. He worked up through the ranks and spent his last 18months working his own devised menu as head chef. The journey through from peeling spuds to signing off plates that leave the kitchen has been both rewarding and a great experience.
After meeting the owners of Mirrens and sharing in their vision for a fresh, new and exciting dining experience, he decided he want to step up to the challenge. With the help of a development chef for Castell Howell, they have devised the new complete ‘Welsh Tapas’ Menu currently taking Mid-Wales by storm here at Mirrens.

Restaurant Manager – Daytimes
Mal gained a degree in Tourism & Hotel Management in her homeland of Poland and has worked and trained in the hospitality industry in Britain for over 6 years. She has qualifications in Supervisory Food Safety, First Aid at work and Foundations of Management & Communicating with Assertiveness training. Her last position was Assistant Catering Manager at Powys Castle for 5 1/2 years.

“My last position was at a really busy local coffee shop, taking orders, serving drinks and light meals and keeping the customers happy! Similarly, I worked at a beauty parlour doing a similar role – both I enjoyed but really wanted to do it at a higher level, in a restaurant.
I really enjoy working in the food & catering industry and love being part of people’s special occasions & celebrations. Working in Mirrens is much more personal and I really enjoy meeting new people, chatting with them and making their evening a much more pleasant experience!”

Hayley worked as the main waitress at the Oriel Gallery and has qualifications in Customer Service and Professional Cleaning.
“Whilst I was Front of House/Waitress at the gallery I really enjoyed the interaction with the customers after they had viewed the art installations in-house, having a personal interest in art. This is why I enjoy working at Mirrens, because of the emotive wall art by Amy, and I’m especially excited about the NEW upstairs!”
Fletcher is our junior chef, who has worked through the ranks and now has on his ‘whites’ and has become a valuable member of the kitchen staff.

We’re proud of our rural roots, which is why supplying and promoting regional produce is one of our core values. We believe in secure, sustainable and fair supply chains. Welsh meat, dairy produce, beverages and gourmet foods are an integral part of our extensive selection of products. In addition to the established favourites we can offer, our customers are also able choose new, innovative lines from the UK and beyond. But if they can’t find what they’re looking for, we’re more than happy to source products on customer request.
Real Bread. No Nonsense
Andy’s Bread was born in June 2010 when he started baking just a few loaves in a small home kitchen to sell in the local veg shop. With a great amount of local support Andy’s Bread has continued to grow and 1000s of loaves down the line he now has a full scale bakery on the edge of Llanidloes. Despite this growth Andy keeps his principles the same: high quality, slowly fermented, artisan bread with no added nonsense. As well as buying organic ingredients he tries to source locally produced ingredients, including stoneground flour from Felin Ganol in Llanrhystud.
A family owned and managed company
Colin Harry Foskett left school in 1960 and worked for his father in the grocery trade. By 1972, realising the potential of the up-and-coming Frozen Foods market, he took a leap of faith and raised enough money to purchase a small struggling frozen food outlet in the coastal village of Harlech. Together with his wife Gill and their two sons Jonathan and Andrew pictured left, the decision was made to move from their native Shropshire to North Wales.
40 years on, Harlech Foodservice, now situated on the Llyn Peninsula, still remains an independent, family owned and managed company.

Supplier of the Welsh Wagyu Beef
Born in Abermule to a farming family Ifor Humphreys has farmed all his life, first with his parents at Llwynmadoc and at Upper Bryntalch Farm since 1983. He was an active member of YFC, being Montgomery County Chairman in 1984 and a former Abermule YFC club president. Also NFU county chairman in 2001, a difficult year thanks to foot and mouth disease! Other activities include walking, pantomime, real ale (Monty’s) and Newtown 41 club.

Contemporary Ales. Brewed in Wales
The growth of Monty’s from a small, family run, start up to an established enterprise, exporting beer all over the world, has been a fast paced and exciting journey.
It was in June 2008 that the first seeds were sown by owners Pam and Russ Honeyman. Over a quiet pint and Sunday lunch, they pondered, ‘Shall we build a brewery?’. Soon after, Pam was off to Brewlab at Sunderland University, returning back with a plan and a recipe.
It was in January 2009 when the first casks were produced. It was only the third brew before Monty’s Sunshine started to get the recognition it still enjoys today, winning the “Darlington Spring Thing CAMRA Beer Festival”.
In 2017 Monty’s won 3 Great Taste Gold stars for their beer Dark Secret, and their cask beer Old Jailhouse was a finalist in CAMRA’s Champion Beer of Britain Competition

Mirrens Restaurant is open from Tuesday through Sunday and is located in Newtown, Mid-Wales. The Restaurant doors open at 12noon until 3pm at lunchtimes and evening service starts at 6pm until 10.30pm Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday – later on Friday and Saturday.
The Lounge Bar is open Friday and Saturday from 6pm until late. Happy hour is from 8-9pm both nights & we often have specials on.
We open on Sunday at 12noon for traditional Sunday lunch, served until 5 pm. We love live music in the restaurant so most weeks with Tommy Mills hosting his popular Open Mic Sessions from 3pm, and anybody can come and play so join in the fun!
